The ancient capital of Wessex, Winchester is steeped in history.  Within a ten minute walk of Ranelagh Road are the beautiful Water Meadows, immortalised by Keats in 'Ode to Autumn'; Winchester College, founded in 1382; the Hospital of St Cross, England's oldest almshouse, whose listed buildings date from 1132;  Winchester Cathedral with more than 1000 years of history, and of course, the legendary Arthurian Round Table which has hung in the Great Hall since 1348.
