No. 1 Ranelagh Road is a tall, Victorian, detached
house in the desirable area of St. Cross in Winchester. The rooms are spacious with high ceilings, large windows,
classically ornate cornicing and old stripped pine doors. The entire house has been refurbished and
will provide guests with a relaxed and peaceful stay in a convivial and comfortable environment. We have been
open as a Bed and Breakfast establishment for two years now.
We have a large double bedroom with a big ensuite bathroom, a twin
bedroom with a shower room ensuite and a single bedroom (4'6" bed) with
its own private bathroom and wc. All of the light, airy bedrooms have flat-screened TVs with digital FreeView,
DVD, CD and radio. Hairdryers, alarm clock/radio, Wireless Internet access and tea, coffee, hot chocolate and
shortbread biscuits are provided, with comfortable chairs and desks/tables in the double and twin rooms.
Bed linen is smooth ivory Egyptian cotton and the towels are soft and fluffy. The ensuite bathrooms
have power showers and are stylishly kitted out with White Company accessories.
Guests can enjoy a generous Aga-cooked breakfast with freshly baked bread, home-made jams and marmalade,
and a wide selection of cereals in the peaceful breakfast room, which, facing east, may be lit with early
morning sunshine.
We have off-street
parking for two cars and visitors' permits for parking on the road. The number 1 bus stops just
50 yards from our house every quarter of an hour and will take you straight into town, although it is only a ten minute level
walk.
Winchester also has
a thriving theatre, a cinema, good shops (Jigsaw, Hobbs, L.K.Bennett, Cadogan, the Hambledon, to name but a few) plenty
of pubs and many very good restaurants, Raymond Blanc's Brasserie, the Black Rat, Hotel du Vin, Loch Fyne and the
Wykeham Arms being some of the best. We have compiled a guide of the restaurants in Winchester for
guests' use, with copies of menus and prices.
We are perfectly placed for access to the M3, M27 and the A34, and for London, Southampton, Salisbury,
Guildford, Stonehenge, the New Forest and the south coast.
